Hieroglyphics

1. The word (hieroglyphic) in Greek means sacred carving.
2. When the ancient Greeks arrived in Egypt, they saw hieroglyphics on tombs and temple walls.
3. Hieroglyphics were symbols in everyday life.
4. Hieroglyphics were also good to calculate mathematical problems.

Scribes

1. Scribes are also known as writers.
2. The scribes main tool was called a kolomas.
3. This pen was made out of a six inch (fifteen-centimetre) reed.
4. It’s ends were chewed by scribes to make it a brushlike tip, it was similar to drawing or painting.
5. The scribes pen colour was black or red.


Papyrus

1. Papyrus is a triangular shaped reed plant that used to grow along the banks of the River Nile.
2.  After soaking the reeds in water, the Egyptians placed the thin strips in layers on top of each other.
3. They were hammered into a single flat sheet and then left to dry in the sun.
